El Cantal: Watchtower from the Middle Ages

The tower of El Cantal, also known as the bonfire tower, dates back to the late medieval times. In the 14th century the tower was built by Yusuf I. to monitor the sea as well as the coastal section in Rincon de la Victoria to warn the nearby fortresses in case of an attack by pirates. The tower is 10,5 meters tall, 7 meters in diameter and it is located on a hill about 30 meters above sea level. (Editor/Photos/Video: mit – Source: Provincial Administration of Málaga)
