The house of Navajas in Torremolinos
At the beginning of the 20th century many wealthy families built a second residence in Torremolinos near the beach. So did the Luque-Navajas family. They worked in the sugar cane business and earned their money by growing the sugar cane plant. In 1925 the businessman Antonio Navajas started the construction of the Casa Navajas (en.: House of Navajas) opposite the Bajondillo beach in Torremolinos. The special feature of the building is the architectural style: Neo-Mudéjar – a style that was popular at the end of the 19th century and represents a revival of the classic Mudejar style that can be found in the Alhambra, among others. The building was acquired by the town of Torremolinos in 2000 and restored in 2014. Today the Casa Navajas is used for weddings, exhibitions, concerts and theatrical performances.
