Ermita de la peña: The chapel, which arose from a rock
The Ermita de la Virgen de la Peña is a chapel built from a rock excavated by monks in 1548. A widespread legend, however, says that the Virgen de la Peña (en.: holy virgin of the hills) appeared in 1586 between the walls of the old fortress, where she hid during the reign of the Moors. She was found by a bricklayer and father of two shepherd children. Today, the Ermita de la Virgen de la Peña is a popular cultural place visited by a lot of people every year.
