Casa Bezmiliana: The fortress in Rincón de la Victoria

Casa Bezmiliana is a fortress built in 1766 as an extension of an existing defensive structure in Rincon de la Victoria. It also includes the watchtower El Cantal which was built in the 14th century and another watchtower in Benagalbón. The whole contruction was built strategically, which allowed the soldiers of the time to control the entire coastal area and protect it from pirates (especially from Holland and England).

Casa Fuerte Bezmiliana is a two-storey building surrounded by a protective wall with two fortified towers. The building is made up of a troop hall, which was used to house the soldiers, the so-called hall of the official and an integrated horse stable with 14 feeding places for the animals of the soldiers. There is a chimney between the troop hall and the hall of the official.

The construction of the Casa Bezmiliana was ordered by King Carlos III. The military engineers José Grane and Francisco de Gozar commanded the construction of the Casa Bezmiliana. In 1992 the fortress was restored by the architect Álvaro Mendiola.

Today, Casa Bezmiliana hosts exhibitions of famous national and international artists as well as cultural events. (Editor/Photos/Video: mit – Source: Casa Bezimiliana)
