Built on a mosque – Iglesia de la Encarnación
It is believed that the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación was built on a mosque dating back to the Nasrid period – a Muslim-Moorish dynasty that, from 1232 to 1492, ruled parts of the Costa del Sol and the Costa Tropical. 130 years after the reconquer of the Costa del Sol by Catholic kings, the bishop Luis Fernández of Córdoba finally rebuilt and expanded the former mosque in 1618. In the course of time, restoration and extension works on the building were repeatedly made. The church has three naves. It has a large central longitudinal space and two slightly smaller longitudinal spaces on the sides. There is also a 50-meter-high tower with a pyramid-shaped spire and an angel-shaped weather vane representing faith. (Editor/Photos/Video: mit – Source: Provincial Administration of Málaga)
